India’s Auto Market Gets More SUVs, More EVs and Higher Prices

The Indian automobile industry had another action-packed week, with major developments across SUVs, EVs, sedans, motorcycles and upcoming launches.

From the India debut of the new-generation Audi Q3 to Tata Motors announcing a price hike, and MG preparing to reveal its new Hector Tomahawk EV, here are the biggest auto updates you should know this week.

1. New Audi Q3 Debuts in India

The third-generation Audi Q3 has officially debuted in India on August 25.

The new Q3 is larger than the outgoing model and gets a much more modern cabin with a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 11.9-inch digital driver's display, panoramic sunroof, Sonos audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera and powered bootlid.

It is expected to go on sale in October 2026, with an expected price of around ₹55–60 lakh ex-showroom.

The India-spec Q3 is expected to use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 204hp and 320Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and quattro AWD.

2. MG Hector Tomahawk EV to Debut on August 26

The SUV will debut as an EV, while a PHEV version is expected later.

The EV is expected to use a 69.2kWh battery and a 201hp electric motor, with a claimed range of around 530km under the CLTC cycle. Real-world range could be around 450–500km.

The expected EV price is around ₹18–25 lakh, placing it directly in the growing electric SUV space.

3. Tata Motors to Increase Prices by Up to ₹25,000

The hike will affect several popular Tata models, including vehicles such as the Nexon and Punch, although detailed variant-wise pricing has not yet been announced.

4. Skoda Slavia Gets a Major Update

The Skoda Slavia facelift has arrived with styling updates, new features and an important mechanical change.

One of the biggest highlights is the new 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI engine.

The updated Slavia also gets features such as a larger 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a rear-seat massage function, making it one of the most feature-rich cars in its segment.

The 79kWh version retains the electric motor producing 286hp and 380Nm, with a claimed 683km MIDC range.

7. Kia Sorento: Fortuner Rival Gets Hybrid + Diesel Options

Kia has revealed the India-spec Sorento, with production reportedly already underway at its Anantapur facility.

The three-row SUV is scheduled for an official launch on September 4, 2026.

The biggest highlight is the availability of both hybrid and diesel powertrains, with Kia positioning the Sorento as a premium SUV rival to models such as the Toyota Fortuner.

The special edition gets a distinctive Gorkha Green colour scheme, crossed-Khukri-inspired insignia, an assist-and-slipper clutch and Type-C USB charging.

Mechanically, it continues with the familiar 349cc J-series engine producing around 20hp and 27Nm.

The motorcycle is essentially a styling-led special edition rather than a mechanical upgrade.

10. KTM 390 Adventure Spotted With New Graphics

The KTM 390 Adventure has been spotted at dealerships with a new white colour scheme and revised graphics.

The update appears primarily cosmetic and could replace the existing Ceramic White option.

KTM is therefore keeping the 390 Adventure fresh while preparing for further updates in the adventure motorcycle segment.
